I will be back oh so very shortly with tales from the baby shower for sister in law last weekend, including finally sharing the hand painted invitations that we made. But, in the meantime, I have a favour to ask.
I am currently putting together a present from husband and I to the baby and the parents. We have bought a few things for the baby, including the rattle/teether above*. But, baby has a lot of presents (seriously, a whole basket full of clothes and so on and baby's not even here yet. Baby's sleeping basket has 3 or 4 rabbits already). I would like to get something for baby's mum and dad too. Which is where you guys come in, specifically those of you that have had babies. Please suggest present ideas [and not, cook them dinner, or watch baby whilst it sleeps - those are great ideas but given I will be baby's Auntie, we will be doing plenty of that anyway.] I want the material shit you can't live without when you have a week old which won't sleep. (Or whatever). If no-one suggests anything good, then they'll be getting the Snotsucker I found on Amazon a while back.
Seriously, Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator had the best review
"if i was a professional booger sucker...and it was my job to suck the snot out of noses 8 hours a day, i would insist on using this thing. but i would want a longer tube, and a holster. "
but they might already have one.
*baby is due in 4 weeks. I am wondering which will arrive first, baby or the rattle...

Hmm, tricky one. Because, in my experience anyway, when you have a small baby, it's the dinners & the watching the baby when you shower that are all you need. A friend gave me some books to read - that was really sweet but I had no time for reading. Someone else gave me bath stuff but I don't remember having time for leisurely baths! Boringly, a voucher for a clothes shop so you can re-dress the postpartum body would be appreciated. Or, maybe a subscription to LoveFilm or similar, to supply all those DVDs to watch during the night feeds.
Was thinking about this question during the afternoon! I'm guessing you've already thought of the baby sling/bouncy chair category of gift? A good sling (not the ubiquitous Baby Bjorn!) is fairly crucial but something that a parent would probably have laid in already.
I was going to suggest a love film subscription too, because there will be no cinema going for a while and so much missed on telly!
I would suggest a wrap-style sling in a very hip fabric...
For me it would definitely be the Moby Wrap. Maybe a sleep mask to encourage them to nap when the baby does...? And a nice thing for the mum could be soft drinks like some nice cordials and a big pack of fizzy water, something like that...? (I just remember having to drink so much & getting really bored of downing glasses of water, a different drink was a nice treat.)
Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator? There is such a thing in this world and it is sold by Amazon... I feel ill...
How about some baby-sitting vouchers?
