Had an e-mail back from a job I applied for, one for which I am grossly over qualified, and from which I got rejected. {Incidentally, it was very kind of them to provide any kind of feedback, as usually feedback is only given to candidates who go for interview and only then if you are very lucky.}
He thanked me for applying, told me I had a strong CV, but given that there were over 700 applicants they had chosen someone whose CV precisely matched the job description.
700 applicants for one position.
Is it any wonder I've been struggling...

Wow, that is rough. I am so sorry you're still dealing with this. I wish there was something I could do!
Me! I've applied to quite a few jobs here I thought I was very much qualified for. I heard the same comment from another recruiter. They wanted someone with the exact experience they sought.
It makes me wonder if I'm inexperienced or too experienced for some things.
It's tough out there.
Thanks Ladies.
I was definitely over qualified for this job. It was a paralegal role & I am already qualified... I guess that was why I didn't match the job description!
It is tough out there but there will be something for me, and also for you.
Ugh ... hang in there, doll. Hugs.
That's crazy, 700 to 1. Wowsers. Sure something will come through as you said.
I feel your pain. I was a paralegal for 2 years after school. Now I'm over qualified for entry level and not experienced enough for most positions. Ugh, and people wonder why I'm working in a corporate grocery store bakery now for 1/3 what I used to make.
Sorry you didn't get the job Rachel. Thinking of you and hoping something comes up soon!
Ugh :-(
I heard on the world service a few days ago about a position in a chip shop that got around 800 applicants, it's crazy town out there. You'll get there though. xx
700 applicants?! Blimey that is rubbish, try not to be disheartened you will get there xxx
